MARTIN MCLAUGHLIN FROM SKELMERSDALE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AND DRUG POSSESSION
In September 2017, Martin McLaughlin, a resident of Skelmersdale, appeared in court to face serious charges related to his conduct involving minors and illegal substances.McLaughlin pleaded guilty to multiple offenses, including attempting to communicate with a child for sexual gratification, attempting to induce a 13 to 15-year-old to view explicit images, grooming a girl under the age of 16 with the intent to meet her, and possessing a controlled Class B drug, specifically cannabis and cannabis resin.
Following his guilty plea, the court sentenced McLaughlin to a total imprisonment term of 15 months.
In addition to his custodial sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect until further notice, to restrict his activities and protect the public from potential harm.
McLaughlin was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years, a measure designed to monitor and manage his conduct post-release.
Furthermore, the court directed that McLaughlin could be referred to the Vetting and Barring Service, a body responsible for maintaining a list of individuals barred from working with vulnerable groups, including children.
As part of the proceedings, authorities made a forfeiture order for a mobile phone and the drugs that were seized during the investigation, ensuring that these items are permanently removed from his possession.
These legal actions underscore the seriousness of the offenses committed by McLaughlin and reflect ongoing efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities to safeguard communities, especially vulnerable minors, from exploitation and harm in Skelmersdale and beyond.
