MARTIN HARVEY FROM RUGBY JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
Martin Harvey, a 66-year-old resident of Ferndown Road in Rugby, has been sentenced to two years in prison after a disturbing discovery of nearly a thousand indecent images of children stored on his hard drive.The case unfolded amid ongoing monitoring by law enforcement officers and the probation service, following Harvey’s previous sexual offence, which had already placed him under strict supervision.
In 2023, authorities uncovered that Harvey had deliberately deleted parts of his internet browsing history, an act that directly violated the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
This breach prompted further investigation, revealing that Harvey possessed a hard drive containing a significant number of illicit images.
The discovery raised serious concerns about his ongoing activities and intentions.
During police interviews, Harvey attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he had erased his browsing history on his phone due to persistent pop-up issues, believing that deleting the history might resolve the problem.
He also stated that he had purchased the hard drive with the intention of researching methods to recover or reinstate his deleted search history.
However, when questioned about the presence of indecent images on the hard drive, Harvey admitted that he had 'drifted back into the old days' and expressed regret, saying, 'I was stupid.' Following these revelations, Harvey faced charges for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and for downloading indecent images of children.
His case was brought before Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday, May 29, where he was ultimately sentenced to 24 months in prison.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his offences and the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in the distribution and possession of such material.
DC Lauren Cooper commented on the case, stating, “We are thankful to the courts for this sentence.
I hope this serves as a warning to others who believe they can continue to offend in this way.
Viewing indecent images of children creates a market for the sexual abuse of children, and I want to be absolutely clear – if you are involved in the production or viewing of materials like that, it’s only a matter of time before we are at your door.”
