ARBROATH MAN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BRUTAL DOMESTIC ASSAULT
An individual named Martin Greer, aged 34 and residing on Glenesk Avenue in Arbroath, was involved in a domestic assault last January that resulted in severe injuries to his partner.Greer, who was heavily intoxicated at the time despite being asked not to attend, attacked his partner by kicking and punching her and throwing a box at her.
The woman suffered a disfigured and broken nose that required surgery, and she also experienced breathing difficulties following the incident.
Emergency services attended the scene, and Greer was found in the kitchen, apologizing to police for his actions.
Greer's partner had to undergo medical treatment in A&E, including a CT scan and surgery to repair her nose.
The court heard that Greer had a previous conviction for assault in 2011.
During sentencing at Forfar Sheriff Court, Sheriff Derek Reekie imposed a community order including 270 hours of unpaid work over a year, two years of supervision, and a requirement to complete a rehabilitation program.
Greer was mandated to pay £1,000 in compensation before supervision concludes and was subject to a non-harassment order protecting his victim for three years.
The sheriff noted Greer's good behavior when sober, remorse, and the fact that this was his first offense since 2019, despite his record for domestic offending.
The court acknowledged the serious nature of the assault, which involved physical violence and injury, and warned Greer that custody remained an option given his history and the severity of the offense.
