MARTIN EMERY AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT AND SNODLAND
A man named Martin Emery, known to reside in Snodland, Kent, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sex crimes involving a vulnerable child in the area.Emery, whose criminal activities spanned nearly a decade from 1997 to 2005, subjected his young victim to repeated assault and exploitation, actions which have now led to his incarceration.
The disturbing allegations against Emery first came to light when Kent Police were formally notified on 18 February 2018.
At the time, Emery was living in Chatham, Kent.
Upon receiving the report, officers launched a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of his misconduct.
This inquiry revealed that Emery had not only physically assaulted his victim multiple times over a period of nearly ten years but also engaged in highly illegal activities behind closed doors.
One of the most disturbing aspects uncovered during the investigation was Emery's clandestine filming of his victim.
Devices seized from his residence, including a hard drive and USB stick, contained hundreds of indecent images of children.
Many of these images belonged to the most severe category of child pornography, underlining the gravity of his offenses.
The seized digital media also contained evidence of extreme and obscene material, some depicting animals, highlighting the depraved nature of his collection.
In June 2021, Emery appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court where he entered a plea of guilty to four charges.
These charges involved possession and creation of indecent images of children, as well as possession of extreme pornography.
Despite his pleas regarding these specific charges, Emery denied any involvement in the sexual abuse of his young victim.
However, the case proceeded to a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.
After careful deliberation, the jury convicted Emery on seven counts, which included indecent assault, sexual assault, and voyeurism.
Emery, who was then 64 years old and lived on Birling Road in Snodland, was sentenced on the 3rd of May to serve five years in prison.
Additionally, the court imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future activities and protect the community.
The conviction and sentence were praised by authorities involved in the case.
Detective Chief Wendy Tondeur from the North Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team expressed her condemnation of Emery’s actions, stating, “Emery had the trust of a child and exploited this trust in the worst possible way, by subjecting her to systematic and harrowing abuse.
The victim was left feeling helpless and with nowhere to turn, but thankfully in recent years found the courage to come forward and help us ensure Emery has now been brought to justice.” DC Tondeur also issued a message to potential victims, emphasizing that it is never too late to report sexual offenses.
She reassured the public that her team of specialized officers is committed to pursuing justice, regardless of how long ago the crimes may have occurred, and assured that all information received would be handled with the utmost confidence and sensitivity.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Kent to combat sexual crimes and protect vulnerable individuals from predatory offenders like Martin Emery, whose actions have left a lasting scar on his victim’s life.
