CAERPHILLY PAEDOPHILE MARTIN CAMBRIDGE SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR ONLINE OFFENCES
In June 2021, Martin Cambridge, a 43-year-old resident of Caerphilly, was sentenced for his obsession with children after being caught downloading child abuse videos while under police supervision.
Police had previously identified Cambridge as a convicted paedophile who, in 2017, was found to possess a significant number of indecent images.
Despite being subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) issued four years earlier, which restricted his internet usage, Cambridge continued to access such material online.
On June 8, 2020, Gwent Police executed a raid on Cambridge’s home in Heol y Dreflan, Caerphilly.
During the search, officers discovered additional films and pictures depicting child abuse.
Prosecutor Susan Ferrier told Cardiff Crown Court, “Officers asked him why he had downloaded them.
He said, ‘I don’t know.
Self-destructiveness maybe.
I was drawn to it.’” She added, “An aggravating feature of this case is the defendant’s previous conviction.” Cambridge pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including six counts of making category A images, four counts of category B, and two counts of category C.
He also admitted to breaching his existing SHPO.
Judge Michael Fitton QC addressed Cambridge directly, stating: “You have an interest, perhaps obsession, with children.
You said it is maybe a morbid curiosity.
That’s nonsense.
You have a dreadful urge to look at such images again and again.” The court sentenced Cambridge to eight months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next 10 years and to remain under the restrictions of the SHPO until 2031.
Post-release, he will be required to pay a victim surcharge, and the court ordered the electronic devices used to access the illegal images to be forfeited and destroyed.
