MARTIN BEVAN AND CHELMSLEY WOOD: PERVERT'S COURT CASES AND SENTENCES
In January 2016, Martin Paul Bevan, aged 58, lost his appeal against a 27-month prison sentence after grooming a schoolboy online and arranging to meet him.The court heard that Bevan enticed the "particularly vulnerable" 13-year-old through internet chats, during which the student disclosed his home address, school, and engaged in increasingly "intimate" conversations.
Bevan drove his Jaguar to the boy’s hometown and met him near his school while the boy was still in uniform.
He provided the youngster with a mobile phone and £50 worth of free calls.
Despite this, the boy found Bevan "a bit creepy" and declined to enter his car.
The two maintained contact via phone afterward, with Bevan fabricating two "fictitious personalities" in an attempt to appear more "glamorous." Bevan was finally apprehended in December 2013.
He resides on Clover Avenue, Chelmsley Wood.
Previously, in August 2012, Bevan, then 55, appeared in court on child abuse image charges.
He had previously been jailed for two years after grooming a 14-year-old boy by claiming to be a government agent and showering him with gifts, including a mobile phone to facilitate secret communications.
Bevan also traveled regularly from Birmingham to meet the boy near Leeds, performed a sex act in a pub car park, and took him to a hotel, prompting a missing persons inquiry.
Police seized equipment containing 234 illegal images, and Bevan admitted to 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children.
He was due to be released on license the following Wednesday, at which point he would transfer to a hostel.
During sentencing, his lawyer, Graham Parkin, noted that Bevan had not yet attended a sex offender treatment program while in custody and requested a community order so he could do so.
Bevan was subsequently subject to a three-year community and supervision order, requiring compliance with probation and treatment programs, and is also on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
Earlier, in January 2012, Bevan, then 54, had been jailed for two years for grooming and abusing a 14-year-old boy from Leeds; he admitted to one count of sexual activity with a minor and grooming charges.
Bevan’s actions included convincing the youth he was a secret agent, showering him with gifts, and communicating behind his parents' backs.
