TEEN SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR ASSAULTING YOUNG BOY
2008: A teenage offender named Martin Bell, aged 19, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy.
The assault was reportedly caught in the act by the victim's grandfather, who alerted authorities.
During police interviews, Bell admitted to abusing the boy over a period of several years, stating: "I was caught doing something I should not have been doing, fiddling with someone." The High Court in Edinburgh heard details of a series of indecent acts committed between June 2001, when the boy was nearly three years old, and June 2007, at locations in Fife and nearby woods.
Bell, who was formerly from Falkland, Fife, was described as having no prior criminal record and was attempting to pursue a career in teaching.
In his sentencing, Judge Colin MacAulay QC imposed a ban on Bell from having contact with children and ordered him to be placed on the sex offenders' register.
