MARTI REYNOLDS AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN ESSEX AND BOURNEMOUTH
A 29-year-old man from Essex, identified as Marti Reynolds, has been officially sentenced to prison after committing a heinous sexual assault.Reynolds, a resident of Baardwyk Avenue in Canvey Island, Essex, was convicted of raping a woman while she was asleep in the seaside town of Bournemouth, Dorset.
The disturbing incident occurred in 2017, during a night out Reynolds had in Bournemouth with a fellow student.
According to court records, the victim had returned to her home that night and, feeling comfortable with Reynolds, she invited him to stay over as a friend.
Unbeknownst to her, Reynolds took advantage of her trust and tranquility.
The woman awoke to find Reynolds perpetrating a sexual assault upon her.
Shocked and distressed, she managed to escape the situation and left her residence.
The trauma of the event prompted her to report the incident to authorities the following Friday, which was several days after the assault.
Reynolds was arrested on the very day she reported the crime, demonstrating police responsiveness and seriousness in handling such cases.
His trial took place at Salisbury Crown Court, where he was convicted of the sexual assault on December 9 of the previous year.
During the proceedings, Reynolds was found not guilty of a second charge involving a different woman, indicating a conviction solely related to the incident in Bournemouth.
On March 5, at Bournemouth Crown Court, Reynolds received a sentence of four years in prison for his actions.
The judge’s decision underscores the severity with which the court views such violations of personal safety and consent.
Detective Constable Christopher Panther of Dorset Police expressed his remarks following the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of the crime.
He stated, “Marti Reynolds targeted his victim as she slept and at no point had she given consent.
She was taken advantage of by someone she believed she trusted.” Det.
Constable Panther also extended gratitude to the victim, acknowledging her bravery in coming forward.
“I would like to thank her for reporting this offence and for the courage she has shown in standing up to Reynolds, affirming that what he did was wrong and supporting the court process.” He further assured the public that Dorset Police remains committed to taking sexual offences seriously, stating, “This case demonstrates our firm commitment to holding offenders accountable and providing support to victims.
