Lewisham Rapist
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Lewisham community, Marnix Angenent, a 47-year-old man from Lewisham, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for sharing and possessing vile videos depicting child sexual abuse. The sentencing took place at Woolwich Crown Court on April 22, following a series of investigations into his online activities that uncovered a disturbing pattern of child exploitation.

Angenent’s criminal conduct came to light after the National Crime Agency (NCA) linked him to multiple online chatrooms and platforms where child sexual abuse material was being circulated. His involvement in these illicit activities dates back to August 2017, during which he used the moniker ‘play with boy’ to access and share such material. The authorities first arrested him in November 2018, during which they seized electronic devices from his home in Lewisham, including a laptop, a USB stick, and a hard drive. These devices contained over 11,000 indecent images and videos of children, categorized from the most serious, Category A, to Category C.

Further investigations led to Angenent’s rearrest in September 2019. During this subsequent arrest, he admitted to being the individual behind the ‘play with boy’ username, which had been linked to the dark web and child abuse material. The evidence presented in court revealed that he had not only shared but also encouraged others to stream and view child abuse content, including a particularly heinous video of a 12-year-old boy being raped. This video was uploaded by Angenent himself to a paedophile chatroom, highlighting his active role in the dissemination of such material.

In March 2021, Angenent pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing prohibited and extreme images, and encouraging the commission of an offence. His actions have been deemed extremely serious, leading to his current sentence. As part of his punishment, he has been handed a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors, and he will remain on the sex offender register for life. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat online child exploitation and bring offenders like Angenent to justice, especially those operating from within the Lewisham area.
