HANLEY COUPLE MARK AND ANGIE PUGH SENTENCED FOR BABY ABUSE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent, a local couple, Mark Pugh, aged 35, and Angie Pugh, aged 29, have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in the abuse and neglect of two innocent babies. The heinous acts came to light after the children were brought to medical attention in 2010, revealing severe injuries that included fractured legs and, in one case, fractured ribs. These injuries indicated a pattern of severe physical abuse inflicted upon the young victims, prompting a thorough investigation by authorities.

Both Mark and Angie Pugh faced charges of cruelty to a person under the age of 16, a serious offense that underscores the gravity of their actions. The case was heard at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where the judge sentenced Mark Pugh to nine months in prison and Angie Pugh to six months. The sentences reflect the court’s recognition of the severity of the abuse and the need for justice for the victims.

Staffordshire Police expressed their approval of the sentences, emphasizing their commitment to protecting vulnerable children. Detective Constable Jim Ward, a member of the force’s child protection unit, stated, “The safety and wellbeing of children is a top priority. We take all reports of child abuse and neglect very seriously and we work closely with partner agencies to ensure that vulnerable children are safeguarded. In all cases where child abuse is reported, we will carry out a thorough and detailed investigation to bring perpetrators to justice.”

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and social services in Stoke-on-Trent to combat child abuse and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The community remains vigilant, and authorities continue to stress the importance of reporting any suspicions of child maltreatment to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
