Stokesley Rapist
In June 2022, a man from Stokesley was handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences involving minors. Mark Anthony Wilson, aged 35 and previously residing on Allen Grove in Stokesley, was sentenced to six years and eight months behind bars following a guilty plea to 27 separate charges related to the exploitation and abuse of children and teenagers through online platforms.

Wilson's criminal activities spanned from 2018 to 2020, during which he targeted vulnerable young individuals across the United Kingdom. His methods involved using social media to solicit explicit photographs and videos from his victims, many of whom were minors. Wilson employed threats and intimidation tactics, warning victims that he would reveal their private images and personal information to their families and the wider public if they refused his demands. These threats often materialized, causing severe emotional distress, humiliation, and degradation among those targeted.

One particularly disturbing incident involved Wilson sending a video of a naked boy to the mother of one of his victims, adding a layer of trauma to an already distressing situation. In another case, authorities recovered images and videos depicting the genitals of a seven-year-old boy, which Wilson had sent during a series of 206 messages and FaceTime calls with the young victim. The investigation also uncovered explicit images of an eight-year-old girl, along with over 1,149 messages exchanged between Wilson and the girl, many of which contained graphic sexual content.

Wilson's malicious communications extended beyond sexual exploitation. He also directed racially offensive, abusive, and sexual messages toward a 16-year-old girl. In these messages, he threatened to upload videos to YouTube claiming her father had raped her, further adding to the victim's trauma. Due to the racially aggravated nature of this particular offence, Wilson's sentence was increased by an additional nine months.

His sentencing took place at Teesside Crown Court on June 15, 2022. The proceedings followed a series of hearings at York Magistrates’ Court, held between August 2021 and February 2022, during which Wilson pleaded guilty to all charges. The judge overseeing the case acknowledged the complexity and length of the investigation that ultimately led to Wilson’s conviction.

The full scope of Wilson’s offences includes distributing and making indecent photographs of children across various categories, causing or inciting sexual activity among minors, and engaging in sexual communication with children. His crimes also involved threatening and offensive messaging, as well as the disclosure of private sexual images. The charges reflect a pattern of predatory behavior aimed at exploiting the innocence of young victims, with Wilson’s actions having caused profound harm to those involved.
