Rattray Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Rattray, Mark Thomson, a 46-year-old resident of Glenshee Drive, faced the Perth Sheriff Court to answer serious allegations involving indecent images of children. The court was informed that Thomson had been in possession of such illicit material at his home address between April 11, 2013, and March 28 of the following year, a period spanning nearly two years.

The court proceedings revealed that Thomson admitted to possessing a total of seven indecent photographs and one video, which was classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of explicit content involving children. The severity of the images and the nature of the charges underscored the gravity of the case.

During the hearing, Thomson’s solicitor, John McLaughlin, provided some insight into his client’s circumstances. He stated that Thomson had taken responsibility for his actions and that, as a consequence of this incident, he had resigned from his employment. Currently, Thomson was actively seeking new employment opportunities, demonstrating a willingness to move forward and rebuild his life.

McLaughlin also mentioned that Thomson had been struggling to cope with the legal proceedings, which had taken a toll on his mental health. To address this, Thomson was now on a more appropriate medication regimen, aimed at helping him manage his condition better.

In addition to the community work order, Thomson was sentenced to two years of supervision under a community programme. This sentence reflects the court’s attempt to balance punishment with rehabilitation, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and supporting offenders as they reintegrate into society.
