MARK SMITH AND SHOCKING CHILD RAPE IN LONDON
A man identified as Mark Smith has been convicted and sentenced for committing heinous sexual offences against a young girl in London. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about his actions that left a lasting impact on the victim.
The criminal incident took place at an address in Canvey, where Smith, aged 30, forcibly coerced a minor girl into performing a sexual act on June 4, 2016.
According to reports, Smith threatened the girl to ensure her compliance, insisting that what happened between them must remain a secret.
He used intimidation as a means of control, compelling her into silence and leaving her feeling both embarrassed and terrified.
The victim confided that she was overwhelmed by fear and shame, which prevented her from revealing the assault initially.
As a result of the traumatic experience, she struggled significantly with her mental health, requiring professional therapeutic assistance.
It was only in August 2019 that the victim disclosed what had happened, reporting the assault to the police.
Once aware, Essex Police promptly initiated an investigation, leading to Smith's arrest in September 2019.
During police interviews, Smith, who resides on Florian Avenue, Sutton, initially denied any memory of the incident, claiming he could not recall being at the address on that particular day.
This denial eventually gave way to a guilty plea when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court on March 30, 2022.
Smith admitted to committing the rape and assault by penetration.
In addition to the primary charges, he was also convicted while on court bail, in January 2022, for a separate offense involving causing a child to engage in sexual activity without consent.
The court sentenced Smith to 13 years and 6 months of imprisonment, with an additional extended licence period of one year.
This means he will be under supervised release following his prison term, aimed at monitoring his conduct and preventing reoffending.
