2005: MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER MICROWAVE TORTURE ATTACK

2005: Mark Ravenscroft, 34, from Upper Chorlton Road in Manchester, was sentenced to life in prison after he subjected his girlfriend to an violent attack lasting nearly 18 hours, during which he tried to microwave her head.

According to court proceedings at Minshull Street Crown Court, Ravenscroft used a table leg and a metal belt buckle to assault Melanie Stewart, who was 19 at the time.

The attack in 2004 left her with injuries that covered every part of her body, including cuts and bruises.

Prosecutor Tina Landale revealed that Ravenscroft had been drinking during the incident.

She added that he punched Ms Stewart in the face and struck her on the head with a vacuum cleaner before forcibly taking her into the kitchen and pushing her head inside a microwave.

Although he could not close the door, he attempted to activate it by pushing the safety catch with a pencil.

After nearly 18 hours of violence, Stewart began vomiting blood, and Ravenscroft refused to let her leave their flat.

About 24 hours into the ordeal, she started bleeding from her ear, which led Ravenscroft to free her.

Police were alerted while she was receiving medical treatment in hospital.

Judge Adrian Lyon sentenced Ravenscroft for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, deeming his actions 'vicious.' He was ordered to serve a minimum prison term of four years and three months.
