MARK PITTS SHOCKS GRIMSBY WITH SEXUAL ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In February 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving Mark Pitts, a 20-year-old youth instructor from Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, who was found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 13-year-old girl.

The incident highlighted the manipulative and calculated behavior of Pitts, who exploited his position within a local youth organisation to establish a disturbing relationship with the young girl.

According to court proceedings, Pitts had been working as an instructor for a youth organisation in Grimsby, a role that allowed him to interact closely with young members of the community.

The girl, a member of this organisation, became acquainted with Pitts through his work, and their relationship deepened over time.

The court heard that Pitts had also developed a personal connection with her mother, whom he met through his involvement in the organisation.

The mother, who took Pitts under her wing and treated him like family, occasionally attended youth activities and even went on a family holiday to France with him.

During this period, Pitts expressed romantic feelings towards the girl, telling her how pretty she was and how he felt about her.

Their relationship included regular kissing, and Pitts twice engaged in sexual intercourse with her.

He also touched her intimately and participated in other sexual behaviors, actions that were clearly inappropriate given her age.

The girl’s mother, growing suspicious of Pitts’ behavior, confiscated her daughter’s mobile phone.

Upon inspection, she discovered that her daughter had sent more than 2,000 text messages to Pitts and had spoken to him on the phone between 11 pm and midnight.

Concerned, the mother took a proactive step by texting Pitts from her daughter’s phone, pretending to be her.

In this message, she referenced her daughter’s sexual relationship with Pitts and asked him what she should tell her mother.

Pitts responded with a chilling reply: “You don’t tell her anything, especially not that.” This exchange revealed the manipulative tactics Pitts employed to conceal their relationship and continue his misconduct.

Further investigation uncovered that Pitts had been reprimanded by the youth organisation in December 2012 for allowing children involved in the organisation to stay overnight at his home.

However, it was clarified that all children involved had their parents’ permission for the overnight stays, and there was no evidence of misconduct at that time.

During the court hearing at Grimsby Crown Court, the prosecution, led by Eleanor Fry, detailed Pitts’ actions and the extent of his manipulative behavior.

The defense, represented by Richard Butters, acknowledged Pitts’ remorse and the damage caused by his actions.

Mr.

Butters emphasized that Pitts had no prior convictions, possessed numerous GCSEs, and was pursuing a foundation degree in hospital and health care at a local college.

He expressed that Pitts’ life had been profoundly affected by his own actions, stating, “His life, through his own fault, is in tatters.” Judge David Tremberg sentenced Pitts to three years and nine months in prison.

Additionally, Pitts was issued an indefinite sexual offences prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for life.

The case left a lasting impact on the community, with the girl’s mother present in court and declining to comment publicly afterward.

The case served as a stark reminder of the dangers of manipulation and abuse within youth organizations and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable young people.
