Chaddesden Child Sexual Abuser
In September 2019, a young girl from Derby was subjected to a traumatic experience that has left her deeply scarred and fearful within her own home. The perpetrator, Mark Ollerenshaw, a man residing in Chaddesden, pleaded guilty to serious sexual offenses committed against the girl, who was under the age of 13 at the time of the assault.

The case was heard at Derby Crown Court, where it was revealed that Ollerenshaw had engaged in inappropriate touching of the young girl, both above and below her clothing. The court heard that he had instructed her not to disclose what was happening, instilling fear and confusion in the young victim.

Judge Shaun Smith QC presided over the proceedings and sentenced Ollerenshaw to a term of 10 years in prison. The severity of the sentence reflected the gravity of the crimes committed and the impact on the victim and her family.

Prosecutor Adrian Amer provided details of the case, stating that the victim confided in her mother about the abuse, which led to Ollerenshaw’s arrest. The court was also presented with two victim impact statements, one from the girl herself and another from her mother, illustrating the profound emotional and psychological toll the incident has taken.

The young girl expressed her ongoing struggles, revealing that she finds it difficult to walk to school alone and that her mother is reluctant to let her go out on her own. She also shared that she has trouble sleeping at night and does not engage in play with her friends, indicating the deep emotional scars left by the assault.

Her mother’s statement echoed these sentiments, describing how the incident has devastated their family. She explained that the trauma has been heartbreaking and that her daughter may never fully recover from what happened. The impact extended beyond the immediate family, affecting other relatives as well.

A psychological assessment was conducted on Ollerenshaw, which revealed that he has significant difficulties, including an extremely low range of mental ability. This insight was considered during sentencing, highlighting the complexity of his case.

Ollerenshaw, whose address is listed as Cowsley Road, pleaded guilty to two counts: one of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and another of sexual assault on a girl under 13. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a restraining order, prohibiting him from making any contact with the victim.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Smith emphasized the terrifying nature of the abuse, noting that Ollerenshaw’s actions varied between over-clothing and direct contact, often leaving the young girl in a state of fear. The judge remarked on the profound loss of trust experienced by the victim’s mother and the lasting damage inflicted on the young girl’s sense of safety and well-being.
