FORMER MABLETHORPE BOXER JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND
Mark Oliver, a former boxer from Mablethorpe, has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for repeatedly punching his partner in the face after she told him they were ending their relationship.
The incident occurred when Oliver knocked his girlfriend to the ground with a single punch to the right side of her face after being informed she was leaving him.
During the court hearing, the woman described how Oliver "went mad" after her phone beeped, leading to a violent assault in their caravan in Mablethorpe.
She recounted that Oliver "used to box and I felt he was punching me with full force." After the initial punch, she fell to the ground and was then punched five more times.
Injury photographs presented in court showed she suffered two black eyes, scratches, swelling to her nose, and an injury to her ear.
The court heard the couple had been living in a static caravan in Mablethorpe.
The victim described Oliver as "unpredictable, violent and controlling." Oliver, aged 51, of Cheltenham Way, Mablethorpe, denied the assault causing actual bodily harm on October 6 but was convicted after a trial at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court.
In mitigation, it was noted that Oliver now accepted the court’s verdict.
The judge, Recorder Patrick Upward QC, sentenced Oliver to 12 months in prison and emphasized that men who batter women need to know they will face custody.
