June 2013 Webcam paedophile from Devon preyed on US girls A man who persuaded young girls in the US to perform sex acts on webcams has been jailed. Mark Noyes, 46, of Winkleigh, Devon was jailed for five years for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and making or possessing indecent images. Police tracked Noyes down after the family of a victim raised the alarm. Devon and Cornwall Police said the case showed that “wherever victims are”, offenders would be found. The force thanked its US counterparts. Meat factory worker Noyes used internet chat rooms to groom girls as young as 12 to perform sex acts for him on camera, Exeter Crown Court was told. Detectives believe he abused at least five girls in different US states after meeting them on the same website, where he hid his identity behind a cartoon avatar. Det Con Glenn Boniface said after the case that it had involved a two-year “detailed investigation” between the force and law enforcement agencies in the United States. He thanked Lt Robbie Broussard from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and officers from the Devon Child Exploitation Team who led the enquiry. “Mark Noyes was a manipulator who persuaded young girls to carry out acts for his own sexual gratification,” he said. Matthew Etre of the HSI said: “The targeting of individuals who exploit children and prey on our children is one of our top priorities and anyone who thinks they can get away with it is mistaken.” March 2013 Winkleigh internet predator faces long jail term for cyber sex with USA girl, 13 AN internet predator has been warned he faces a long jail term after being found guilty of luring a 13-year-old American schoolgirl into cyber sex. Mark Noyes,45 was branded a predatory paedophile by a judge after a jury at Exeter Crown Court found him guilty of grooming girls aged 12 and 13 through internet chat rooms. The Winkleigh man was found with naked pictures of the two girls which they had sent to him and his bedroom was festooned with stills of the 13-year-old. He used a web cam link to have virtual sex with the girl even though he knew her age and had recorded her birthday on his Blackberry mobile phone. Noyes, of Berner’s Cross, Winkleigh, denied three counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and eight counts of making or possessing a total of 310 indecent images. He was found guilty of all 11 counts in an hour and Judge Phillip Wassall adjourned the case for reports designed to analyse how much danger he poses to young girls. The Judge said:”I have no doubt he is a predatory paedophile operating in chat rooms, which is where he picked up his victims in both cases. “I have to consider dangerousness in this case and I need a report to assess the risk he poses if he remains untreated. There may be a risk of him causing serious harm to those he meets on the internet. “It is inevitable he is going to get a lengthy custodial sentence. The only question is whether there needs to be an extended licence period when he is released.” The judge bailed him to his mother’s home in Hatherleigh on condition he has no contact, real or virtual with young people, does not use the internet, and surrenders any phone capable of accessing it to the police. During the case the court heard how he befriended two girls in Louisiana, one when she was 12 and the other when she was 13. He sent a present and a love letter to the first, who responded by e-mailing him a nude photograph. He went further with the second, grooming her and persuading her to perform sex acts for his benefit on a web cam. He was also found with a pornographic Japanese cartoon showing a young girl being abused by older men. He claimed he was sent the picture of the first girl by accident, that he thought the second was over 18, and downloaded the cartoon without realising its content. He said he chatted to the girls online about fantasy fiction and Greek mythology. Noyes will be sentenced on April 17, either at Exeter, Plymouth or Truro, depending where the Judge is sitting.
