MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF WOMAN

A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman as she lay asleep.

Mark McIlwaine, 49, of Elizabeth Court, Higher Bugle, appeared before Truro Crown Court on April 10 for his sentencing hearing after being found guilty of sexual assault by penetration and causing a woman to participate in non-penetrative sexual activity.

It was explained in court that McIlwaine attacked his victim while she was sleeping, and when questioned, he initially claimed that nothing had occurred.

McIlwaine also denied any involvement in the offence during police interviews.
