MARK MCCONNELL OF DUNFERMLINE ADMITS TO ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR AGAINST EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man from Dunfermline, Mark McConnell, has admitted to controlling and abusing his former partner, which included forbidding her from wearing skirts, criticizing her eating habits, and physically assaulting her by throwing coffee.McConnell, aged 28, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to a course of abusive conduct spanning from November 2019 to December 2020.
He is scheduled for sentencing next month.
Procurator fiscal depute Mat Piskorz explained that the couple initially connected on Instagram.
As their relationship developed, McConnell's controlling and abusive behavior increased.
The court was told he dictated what she could wear, specifically banning her from wearing skirts, and limited her social interactions by insisting on details of her phone conversations.
Furthermore, he monitored her diet, making negative comments that contributed to her weight loss, for which she was prescribed iron tablets.
In March 2020, an incident occurred when McConnell threw coffee over his partner during a dispute at their home, which was sparked by her comment about his football team.
This altercation was reported to police, leading to charges against him.
McConnell has acknowledged restricting his ex-partner's clothing choices, social interactions, criticizing her eating, and physically attacking her by throwing coffee.
Sheriff Susan Duff postponed sentencing until September 14 to consider background reports.
