MARK LUMLEY AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN SURREY
A man identified as Mark Lumley, who engaged in a series of disturbing online sexual offences and had plans to travel to the United States for illicit purposes, has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison.Lumley's criminal activities, which involved contacting underage teenagers and discussing heinous acts, took place between July 2020 and October 2021.
Originally from Gravesend, Lumley later moved to Manor Road North, Hinchley Wood, Surrey.
His offending came to light when law enforcement authorities became aware of his behaviours through digital evidence.
A search warrant was executed at his residence, leading to the seizure of a mobile phone.
The device contained an array of incriminating material, including explicit photos, videos, and chat logs derived from social media platforms.
Investigations revealed that Lumley engaged in obscene conversations and exchanges with multiple teenagers he believed to be between 14 and 16 years old.
These communications included sexually explicit language and solicitation.
Furthermore, detectives uncovered that Lumley had conspired with another individual to travel to the United States, where he intended to pay $700 for the purpose of sexually abusing a child.
This plan underscores the premeditation and seriousness of his intentions.
Following his arrest, Lumley was detained and subsequently faced multiple charges.
These charges included the sexual exploitation of a child, producing indecent photographs of minors, and causing a female over the age of 13 to engage in sexual activities.
In court, he admitted to involvement in 20 separate child sex offences.
The case culminated at Maidstone Crown Court, where Lumley appeared and pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court sentenced him to a term of seven and a half years in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, a four-year extended licence period was imposed, which he will serve upon his release.
To further protect the public, Lumley was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and was permanently added to the sex offenders' register.
Detective Constable Michelle James commented on the case, stating: “Lumley specifically targeted vulnerable young girls online and instigated obscene conversations for his own sexual gratification.
His behaviour will leave a lasting psychological impact on the victims and he belongs in jail.” She emphasized ongoing efforts by investigators to identify and apprehend individuals who seek to exploit minors privately via the internet, reaffirming that such offenders have nowhere to hide.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance in monitoring online activity and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to bringing offenders like Lumley to justice, ensuring the safety and well-being of young victims in Surrey and beyond.
