MARK LEE OF MANCHESTER SENTENCED FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGERS
A man from Manchester, Mark Lee, has been remanded into custody following a series of disturbing online interactions with underage boys, despite existing legal restrictions against him.His case was thoroughly investigated by his Offender Management Team, leading to a significant prison sentence and lifelong registration as a sex offender.
Mark Lee, born on January 23, 2003, and residing on Greenbrow Road in Manchester, was sentenced to five years in prison.
This sentence is accompanied by an extended period of licence, ensuring close supervision upon his release.
Additionally, Lee has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order has been imposed to restrict his activities further.
The investigation revealed that Lee continued to target young boys through online chatrooms, even after he was convicted in 2023 for offences related to indecent images.
His previous conviction resulted in a suspended sentence, and he was explicitly banned from contacting anyone under the age of 18.
He was also prohibited from possessing any images depicting minors.
Despite these restrictions, Lee persisted in his online pursuits, which prompted ongoing monitoring by a dedicated case worker from the Sex Offender Management Unit, who conducted weekly checks on his activities.
In 2022, Lee initiated contact with a 13-year-old boy via a chatroom app.
During their conversations, Lee coerced the young boy into sending explicit photographs.
To further manipulate the situation, Lee paid the boy a total of £1,200, attempting to persuade him to send more explicit images.
The boy, sensing that Lee was not the 17-year-old he claimed to be, tried to sever contact.
However, Lee devised a deceitful plan by creating a new social media account and pretending to be his own sister.
Under this false identity, he communicated with the teenage boy, claiming to be a good brother and encouraging him to continue speaking with him.
Simultaneously, Lee was engaging with another teenage boy through the same chatroom platform.
Investigations uncovered that Lee used age filters to specifically target 13-year-old boys, often pretending to be a peer himself.
His online activities demonstrated a pattern of grooming and manipulation aimed at minors.
Lee’s first arrest occurred in November 2023, when Detective Constable Dan Foy detained him for questioning.
He was released on bail but continued his online interactions, even arranging to meet one of the boys in February 2024.
His persistence in maintaining contact with minors raised further concerns.
In April 2024, authorities acted swiftly after new intelligence emerged.
Lee was re-arrested following a report he made claiming to be a victim of fraud, alleging he had not received payment for a laptop sold on eBay.
This report was a cover for his ongoing illicit activities, as officers discovered that he possessed images of young teenage boys on his mobile phone.
Through detailed detective work, including analyzing school uniforms visible in the images and cross-referencing data from UK school databases, officers identified his victims.
Subsequently, Lee was charged with multiple serious offences.
These included engaging in sexual communication with a child, inciting a boy aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, possessing indecent images of children, and meeting a young boy following grooming.
He was also charged with multiple breaches of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order, reflecting his repeated violations of court-imposed restrictions.
Lee’s case underscores the ongoing threat posed by online predators and highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement and monitoring to protect vulnerable minors from exploitation and abuse.
