TWO dogs starved until they were emaciated are now fit and well, a court was told yesterday.
A couple, Mark Jenkins, 27, and girlfriend Sharon Jenkins, 25, of Marine Street, Cwm, were each convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to their two dogs, a brown lurcher called Toot and a black and white Staffordshire terrier called Molly.
They had denied the allegations.
The pets were almost half their recommended body weight when they were removed by an RSPCA inspector.
The court heard the animals were almost back at their normal weight after being treated by a vet and spending a month in kennels being carefully looked after.
The dogs were first seen by RSPCA Inspector Edwina Davidson on February 12, at the rear of the couple’s house in Marine Street, Cwm, where both dogs had very thin bodies and the cages were very dirty, with water issues.
The court heard that the dogs were underfed to such a degree that they were extremely emaciated and also suffered from an advanced case of sarcoptic mange.
The couple told the RSPCA inspector that the dogs were given a Roses size tin of dry mix dog food between them daily and some scraps in the evening.
The bench adjourned sentencing for reports, but all options remain open.
