Dukinfield Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local community of Dukinfield and the wider Manchester area, a man named Mark Anthony Hindley has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl. The 40-year-old resident of Warwick Terrace, Dukinfield, faced justice at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to six counts of rape involving a minor.

Hindley's crimes spanned several years, with the victim, a schoolgirl, subjected to repeated sexual assaults from the age of 11 until she was 16. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Hindley had threatened the girl with violence, warning her that she would be harmed if she disclosed the abuse to anyone. This intimidation kept her silent for years, compounding the trauma she endured.

The abuse was brought to light in February 2008, when the victim finally reported to authorities that Hindley had been raping her since 2002. Following her disclosure, police swiftly arrested Hindley and launched a detailed investigation into the allegations. During the investigation, officers uncovered disturbing evidence, including a video recording in which Hindley was seen raping the girl. This footage served as a crucial piece of evidence in securing his conviction.

As a result of his guilty plea, Hindley was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure that aims to monitor and restrict his activities post-release. Furthermore, he was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.

Detective Constable Sarah Aaronson, of the Tameside Public Protection Investigation Unit, commented on the case, emphasizing the severity and the emotional toll of the crimes. She stated, “This was a particularly harrowing case of systematic sexual abuse of a young child who was subjected to horrific rapes over a lengthy period of time. The victim was threatened with violence and was too afraid to report the matter at the time. However, they were ultimately brave enough to come forward to the police earlier this year.”

She added, “The victim will never get over what has happened to her, but she can find some solace in the fact that justice has been served today. Tameside Police Public Protection Investigation Unit remains committed to investigating all cases of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed. This case underscores the importance of reporting such incidents, no matter how long ago they occurred.”
