MARK GODFREY FROM MANCHESTER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST EASTBOURNE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local community, Mark Godfrey, a man residing in Manchester, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in serious sexual offences committed against a young girl in Eastbourne.The offences took place over a period spanning from when the victim was just five years old until she was 13, with the crimes occurring between 16 and 22 years ago.
According to court records, Godfrey, aged 55 at the time of sentencing, was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault.
These offences were committed during his residence in Eastbourne, a seaside town known for its historic charm and vibrant community.
The assaults inflicted significant emotional and psychological harm on the young girl, whose vulnerability was exploited by the offender.
The sentencing hearing revealed that the crimes persisted over several years, with the victim enduring repeated abuse until the year 2002.
The court heard how Godfrey took advantage of her innocence and trust, actions that have left lasting scars.
Detective Constable Emma Penrose-Reed, who led the investigation, emphasized the gravity of the case, stating that Godfrey deliberately exploited the girl’s vulnerability.
She also noted that the offender will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his future conduct and protect the community from potential harm.
As part of his punishment, Mark Godfrey was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Additionally, he will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
