RAPIST CAUGHT BY TEXT MESSAGE CONFESSION
A COACH driver has been convicted of raping a woman he met through a text dating agency. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, met Woodland via a mobile texting relationship.
Woodland was caught when he sent a message apologising for the attack, as the jury at Dorchester Crown Court heard.
On the night of November 23, 2004, Woodland raped the woman.
She stated, "At this point all I wanted to do was get him off me." The following day, she told her relatives and the police about the incident.
Prosecutor Peter Henry explained that Woodland acknowledged the rape in text messages, apologising and expressing remorse.
Texts included statements like "You carried on when I told you to stop which means it was rape" and "I am so very, very sorry that I hurt you but I didn't mean to hurt you.
You mean the world to me.
I am very, very sorry," along with pleas not to go to the police.
Judge John Beashel announced that Woodland would be registered as a sex offender and that a long custodial sentence was inevitable.
Woodland was remanded in custody, with sentencing postponed for three weeks for pre-sentence reports.
