GREENOCK MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DOMESTIC ABUSE AND COURT FOUL-MOUTHED OUTBURST
A MAN convicted of a string of domestic offences against his ex-partner has pleaded guilty to hurling foul-mouthed abuse at her — during a sheriff court trial.Mark Derrick forced the abandonment of proceedings as the brave nurse was giving evidence about how he flew into a knife-carrying rage within her Greenock home.
The 30-year-old lout — who has previously been jailed for offences against her — was later convicted at a re-arranged trial and sent to prison again.
Derrick, of Brae View, has now admitted to shouting and swearing at his ex and acting aggressively whilst she testified against him from behind screens.
He has also pleaded guilty, by letter, to referring to the woman in derogatory and abusive terms during the trial in February last year.
Derrick's victim returned to court the following month and told how he threatened to stab her — and the police if she called them.
She said it 'felt like it was something out of a horror film', described him as 'a very aggressive man' and stated she was 'very scared' of him.
Derrick committed that offence after the woman had asked him to walk her dog.
She told the court that the relationship had been over for months but that he would stay at her house on some occasions for childcare purposes.
The Telegraph told in 2020 how Derrick had previously threatened to stab the woman during a 5am tirade of verbal abuse.
That outburst came after she'd asked him not to put the heartburn medicine Gaviscon into a baby's bottle.
Derrick was jailed in 2017 for brandishing a knife and triggering an armed siege by police at his Brae View home after threatening to stab two officers to death.
He stated at the time of the offence that it would be 'just like' the death of hero London terror attack victim PC Keith Palmer at the Houses of Parliament.
Derrick had previously kicked a police officer on the back of his head and spat in the face of his colleague in shocking assaults carried out on Christmas Eve 2016.
Sentence on him for his expletive-filled tirade in court has been deferred, until April 6, for his personal appearance.
