A PAEDOPHILE who searched the Internet for images of children being sexually abused has been sentenced to nine months in jail.
Mark Buchanan (37), of Manse Road, Clackmannan, collected a total of 122 indecent images of children on his computer, including 12 pictures showing girls as young as three being sexually abused.
Falkirk Sheriff Court heard that Buchanan had a history of unhealthy interest in young girls.
He was previously convicted at age 20 of unlawful sexual intercourse with a schoolgirl aged 14 and 15.
Sentenced to nine months imprisonment, with an additional three-year extended sentence allowing recall if he reoffends, Sheriff Paul Arthurson described Buchanan's actions as "an abhorrence to all right-thinking persons." The police raided his former home on 24 April 2008, seizing various electronic devices.
Searches revealed internet terms like 'naked kids', 'majestic lolitas', and 'pre-teen schoolgirls,' indicating deliberate searches for child pornography.
He pleaded guilty to downloading such material.
The judge noted that Buchanan's wife died in 2003, leaving him the full care of his daughter Chloe, who tragically died of cancer in April 2008, shortly before his arrest.
His solicitor emphasized his troubled life and remorse.
The court ordered the forfeiture of his computer equipment.
