Kendal Sexual Abuser
In April 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Mark Bradley, a resident of Kendal, who was found in possession of highly illegal and disturbing images depicting child characters from the popular television series The Simpsons. The details of this case were presented at Carlisle Crown Court, where Bradley faced serious charges related to the possession of prohibited material.

Bradley's criminal history is extensive and troubling. Born in 1964, he is now 57 years old and has a long record of sexual offenses. His past convictions include a conviction in 1983 for indecent assault, and in 2012, he was sentenced to five years in prison for a sexual assault involving penetration. Due to these offenses, Bradley was subjected to lifelong notification requirements as a sex offender, a measure designed to monitor and restrict individuals deemed a threat to the public.

Despite these restrictions, Bradley continued to engage in illegal activities. In 2019, he was sentenced to additional prison time after breaching the notification requirements and for possessing a bladed article unlawfully. The seriousness of his latest offense was highlighted during the court proceedings, which revealed that police had conducted a search of Bradley’s residence in Kendal on December 10, 2019, as part of an unrelated investigation.

During the search, authorities seized an Acer computer from Bradley’s home. Subsequent analysis uncovered 24 prohibited images stored on the device. These images were particularly disturbing, as they depicted child characters from The Simpsons engaging in sexual acts both with each other and with adult characters from the fictional family. The court was also informed that there were concerning search terms used by Bradley, indicating a premeditated interest in such material.

When questioned during police interviews, Bradley initially claimed that he was merely testing the surveillance system to see if he was being watched. He denied having any sexual interest in children and insisted that he did not derive any gratification from the images found on his computer. However, given his extensive criminal history, the Crown Prosecutor did not accept these claims as credible.

Bradley, of Gardiner Bank in Kendal, pleaded guilty to possessing prohibited images of children. The case was further considered by the court, where Recorder Eric Lamb reviewed a detailed pre-sentence report prepared by a probation officer. The report highlighted the significant risk Bradley posed to society, but also recommended that a community-based sentence could be appropriate if certain conditions were met.

In light of this, the judge imposed a 36-month community order on Bradley. As part of this sentence, he is required to complete a sexual offending behavior program, adhere to a rehabilitation plan, and observe a four-week night-time curfew. Recorder Lamb emphasized the gravity of the illegal material, stating, “The nature of the images would fill any members of the public hearing about them with disgust,” underscoring the seriousness of the offense and the need for ongoing supervision and rehabilitation.
