Mark Bailey

Watford Sexual Abuser

Febuary 2003 Pc jailed for abusing Scouts A police officer who sexually abused boys in his Scout troop has been jailed for 10 years. Mark Bailey 41, of Watford, Hertfordshire, a serving officer in the Metropolitan Police, was sentenced on Friday for three offences of indecent assault and two other serious sexual offences. At St Albans Crown Court Judge Colin Colston QC said Bailey, a married father of three, had shown not a shred of contrition or remorse for what he had done. “You have brought real shame on the Scouting movement. Similarly you bring shame on the uniform you wear as a police officer.” Sex games The jury at Bailey’s three-week trial heard the police constable would target the most promising Scouts to spend time alone with them as they worked towards their next badge. Bailey would ply youngsters with alcohol, show them pornographic magazines and videos and encourage them to play sex games. Adolescent boys were too frightened to tell their families what was happening, fearing no one would believe them. Scouts traced But early last year one former Scout, then aged 22, finally told his parents what had happened at the hands of Bailey eight years earlier. Detectives from Hertfordshire Police who investigated the claims, traced other ex-Scouts from Bailey’s troop. Bailey was sentenced to eight years for each of the offences of the serious sexual offences and two years to run consecutively for indecent assault. His name is to be added to the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
