Leicester Sexual Abuser
In December 2014, a disturbing series of indecent exposures took place in Leicester's Braunstone area, involving a man named Marius Blaga. Over a span of just 15 minutes, Blaga, aged 30 and residing on Fosse Road South, committed four separate acts of lewd behavior that left multiple victims in a state of shock and distress.

According to reports presented at Leicester Crown Court, the first incident occurred around 3:30 pm when a 16-year-old schoolgirl and her 17-year-old sister had just disembarked from a bus after a day at school. As they were walking, a blue Renault Clio pulled up beside them. The driver, later identified as Marius Blaga, wound down his window and asked for directions to Leicester city centre. While the girl pointed the way, she suddenly noticed that Blaga was exposing himself and engaging in lewd conduct. Her immediate reaction was one of shock, exclaiming, “Oh my God.”

Her sister, who was nearby, observed that Blaga was “licking his lips like he wanted the girls to see him,” according to prosecutor Victoria Rose. Although she did not see his lower half, the sisters quickly noted his vehicle’s registration number and promptly reported the incident to the police. The police were also contacted by other victims who had experienced similar encounters.

The second victim, a woman, reported a comparable incident on a nearby street. Shortly thereafter, a 17-year-old girl encountered Blaga as he lewdly exposed himself from his car while asking for directions. She was described as being “extremely shocked” and was motivated to report the incident out of concern that others might be targeted.

Just a few minutes later, at approximately 3:45 pm, another woman found herself in a similar situation involving Blaga. These repeated offenses within such a short timeframe underscored the pattern of his behavior.

Judge Simon Hammond addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the offense: “Indecent exposure is a very unpleasant experience for females, particularly the two schoolgirls, and it can be very upsetting.” He sentenced Blaga to four months in prison and ordered that he register as a sex offender for seven years. However, the judge noted that Blaga’s future could be affected further, as the Home Office might consider deportation, given his Romanian origins.

During the hearing, Philip Gibbs, representing Blaga, explained that his client was an industrious individual who had come to the UK from Romania seeking better economic opportunities. Gibbs stated that Blaga had been employed in two jobs and was sending money back home to his mother. He described his client as someone who was feeling isolated and lonely, which contributed to his sexual frustration. Gibbs expressed remorse on Blaga’s behalf, noting that the incidents occurred over a very brief period and that his client was deeply ashamed of his actions.

Prosecutors highlighted the impact on the victims, but also acknowledged that they appeared to have coped relatively well with the ordeal. The case raised concerns about the potential for Blaga’s deportation, which remains a possibility depending on the Home Office’s decision.
