MARIA ALFONZO SHAMES DEVON INDECENT PHOTO CASE LINKED TO NEWCASTLE TRIAL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in Devon, a woman identified as Maria Alfonzo has admitted to serious allegations involving the exploitation of a child. The incident took place in Paignton on June 12 of this year, where Alfonzo, a 31-year-old woman originally from Venezuela, was found to have taken an indecent photograph of a young child.
This heinous act was not confined to mere possession; she also engaged in the distribution of the image by sending it electronically to an individual located in the Newcastle area.
Alfonzo, who resides on Southey Lane in Newton Abbot, appeared before Exeter Crown Court via a video link from Eastwood Park prison near Bristol.
The court proceedings revealed her guilty plea to both the creation and dissemination of the indecent image.
The case was subsequently transferred to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing, a move that was made to align with a related case involving a man facing trial on connected charges scheduled for the upcoming year.
The presiding judge, Peter Johnson, addressed Alfonzo during the hearing, stating, "I am transferring the case to Newcastle Crown Court, for obvious reasons.
You will be given appropriate credit for your pleas." The transfer underscores the seriousness of the charges and the interconnected nature of the cases involved.
Alfonzo was remanded in custody pending her sentencing, highlighting the gravity of her actions and the ongoing legal process to address this disturbing crime.
