2017: RAPIST JAILED FOR 13 YEARS AFTER STRING OF ASSAULTS
A 38-year-old resident of Oldbury has received a prison sentence of 13 and a half years following convictions on multiple serious charges, including rape and assault.Judge Barry Berlin commented that only a lengthy custodial term was fitting given the nature of the offenses, stating: “You have behaved in a brutal way.” Marewan Faraj, who resides on Ashes Road, had pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, two counts of assault, and a cruelty charge spanning a 15-month period.
However, after two separate trials at Wolverhampton Crown Court, he was found guilty by two juries who deliberated after reviewing the evidence.
Prosecutor Philip Beardwell outlined that Faraj’s criminal activity began in February 2015, with some offenses occurring after he was released on bail.
The court heard that Faraj raped the same woman on two different occasions and also assaulted a child with a metal rod and stick following a loss of temper.
In March of the previous year, he reportedly invited his partner, who owns a car wash, to his home then launched a violent, unprovoked attack on her male partner.
According to Mr.
Beardwell, Faraj used a sledgehammer’s wooden handle as a weapon, resulting in the victim being rendered unconscious.
The injured man sustained a fractured nose, a deep cut to his forehead, and suffered significant psychological trauma, the court was told.
