MARCUS CHRISTOPHER SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the Nottinghamshire community, Marcus Christopher, aged 44, was convicted of heinous crimes involving a 14-year-old girl and the possession of over 500 images depicting child abuse. The incident and subsequent investigation have brought to light disturbing details about Christopher's past and recent actions.
It was revealed that nearly twenty years ago, Christopher had already been convicted of serious sexual offenses, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and indecent exposure to young children.
During that earlier conviction, he was found in a school toilet, naked, attempting to attract the attention of schoolgirls, a behavior that underscored his troubling history.
At that time, the sex offenders' register had not yet been established, meaning he was not legally required to inform authorities of his whereabouts.
The recent case unfolded when Christopher was arrested last August after an incident in Nottinghamshire where he forcibly dragged a young girl into a bedroom and assaulted her.
The girl, who was understandably terrified, attempted to resist but was physically restrained by Christopher, who held her hands above her head during the attack.
Following the assault, she managed to contact ChildLine and confided in a friend about her ordeal.
The friend's account described her as being physically shaken, highlighting the trauma she endured.
Authorities responded swiftly, conducting a thorough search of Christopher’s residence.
During the search, police discovered a significant collection of images on his computer, with varying degrees of severity in terms of content.
Prosecutor Adrian Reynolds stated that Christopher had been actively downloading and viewing such material in the days leading up to the assault, indicating a disturbing pattern of behavior.
In court, Judge David Price sentenced Christopher to a term of three years and 26 days in prison, deducting 156 days he had already served on remand.
His current detention is at HMP Nottingham.
The judge also ordered that upon release, Christopher will be subject to a ten-year license period and must register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
During the sentencing, Judge Price remarked on Christopher’s attitude, noting that he had spoken to a probation officer and that a report indicated he did not see much wrong with offending against children.
The defense, represented by Richard Thatcher, argued that Christopher should receive credit for his guilty pleas to both rape and possession of child pornography.
Thatcher also highlighted that Christopher was under medical supervision at Nottingham prison, where he was being weaned off anti-depressants, which he claimed had affected his judgment at the time of the offenses.
This case underscores the ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and the importance of monitoring individuals with a history of sexual crimes.
The community and authorities remain vigilant as Christopher begins his sentence, with the hope that measures taken will prevent further harm.
