MARCIN DEREWECKI FROM SCARBOROUGH JAILED FOR BREACHING SEX OFFENDERS’ REGISTER IN YORK
In a significant development in the ongoing efforts to monitor and enforce sex offender regulations, Marcin Derewecki, a 42-year-old resident of Scarborough, has been sentenced to prison following his breaches of the sex offenders’ register. The incident unfolded earlier this year when North Yorkshire Police apprehended Derewecki on February 7, 2021, at his residence on Hildenley Close.
Specialist officers tasked with public protection investigations uncovered troubling evidence indicating that Derewecki had been using an alias online and had registered a different email address, both of which he failed to report to authorities as required by law.
This omission constitutes a breach of the conditions set out for registered sex offenders, designed to ensure transparency and facilitate ongoing monitoring.
Upon being confronted with the evidence, Derewecki admitted to both offences.
His guilty plea was entered at York Crown Court on the Friday following his arrest, leading to a sentence of eight months in prison.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order against him, further restricting his activities and access to online platforms.
It is noteworthy that Derewecki has a prior conviction dating back to 2016, when he received a suspended prison sentence related to offences involving indecent images of children.
This history underscores the importance of strict enforcement and monitoring of individuals with such criminal backgrounds.
Earlier in February 2021, Derewecki appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to the breaches.
He was remanded in custody pending his sentencing at York Crown Court, scheduled for March 5, 2021, at 9:45 am.
The case highlights the ongoing vigilance of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the community and ensuring compliance with legal obligations for sex offenders.
