MARCIA WALKER AND HOAX BOMB THREATS IN OXFORD

In a recent development within the realm of criminal activity, Marcia Walker, a transgender woman previously known as Mark Walker, has been remanded for extreme threats and hoax bomb calls made within the United Kingdom.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of criminal behavior involving threats of violence and malicious hoaxes, particularly involving prison staff and authorities.

Walker, age 43, has a long and troubling history of criminal offenses, including multiple serious convictions related to sexual offenses against minors, including minors under the age of four.

Her criminal record is extensive, with a total of 38 convictions prior to these recent incidents.

Her history includes two convictions for rape of young girls, a count of 10 for creating indecent photographs of children, along with various counts related to the distribution and possession of such material.

This history was notably recognized during her sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court on January 17, 2003, where she received a sentence of 13 years.

The recent allegations involve Walker making a series of bomb hoaxes, which have notably disrupted prison operations.

At the time of the latest offenses, she was detained at HMP Long Lartin, a high-security facility near Evesham in South Littleton.

These threats reportedly included hoax bomb calls and written threats directed at prison staff and the prison governor.

Specifically, Walker was accused of sending a threatening note to senior prison officer Bernard Thompson, stating that a bomb was set to explode at his home.

Additionally, she was believed to have sent another letter to Tom Wheatley, the prison governor, claiming that a bomb had been sent to his residence and that she was eager to see the event unfold on television.

During her court appearance at Worcester Crown Court, Walker admitted to making a hoax call to Crimestoppers on December 4, 2015, and to sending two threatening letters on January 28, 2016.

These threats were made amidst ongoing legal proceedings concerning her behavior in custody.

The seriousness of her actions was underscored by the fact that the prison where she was held contained inmates with backgrounds involving terrorism, which heightened the perceived risk to staff and the public.

Judge Robert Juckes QC presided over the case and emphasized the importance of extending Walker’s sentence to prevent further disruptions.

In his remarks, he pointed out that Walker’s pattern of threatening behavior appeared to be motivated partly by her desire to secure transgender surgery, which was still under investigation at the time.

The judge stated, “There is apparently no other way of controlling your behaviour other than by making it clear to you that each time you choose to behave in this way, you face a longer sentence.

The only person that can end this cycle is you.” Prosecutor Charles Hamer outlined the gravity of Walker’s actions, revealing that one of her threatening notes implied an imminent explosion at Mr.

Thompson’s home, raising concerns about the safety of his wife.

The threats extended further with her alleging that an incendiary device had been sent to the governor’s residence, which Walker claimed she looked forward to watching on television.

These threats, made while Walker was still serving her previous sentences, underscored the potential danger and the disruptive nature of her conduct.

Her criminal history includes multiple incidents during her incarceration, such as making bomb threats while detained at HMP Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight, including claims of a nail bomb in the prison car park and a bomb at the governor’s residence.

On July 6, 2015, she was sentenced to four years for these offenses.

In addition, Walker previously made threatening phone messages suggesting there was a bomb at a probation hostel in Windsor, which led to a six-year sentence imposed at Oxford Crown Court on June 17, 2013.

Defense attorney Simon Worlock described Walker as a “disturbed individual who has been classically institutionalized.” Worlock emphasized that no actual devices or threats were ever carried out or sent to any valid address, describing her actions as foolish but not indicative of imminent danger.

He also highlighted that Walker has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, characterized by rigid thinking, a lack of insight, and a tendency to blame the prison system for her plight.

The defense argued that her offenses, while serious, were more nuisance than threat to public safety, and that at the time of her latest arrest, it was believed she lacked the means to carry out her threats.

Despite these arguments, the court sentenced Walker to an additional five years in prison following the completion of her current sentence, emphasizing the need to protect prison staff, other inmates, and the wider community from her disruptive and potentially dangerous actions.
