MARC JONES FROM SWANSEA CAUGHT IN DISTURBING ONLINE SEXUAL CHAT WITH 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Swansea community, a man identified as Marc Jones, aged 43, was apprehended after engaging in explicit online conversations with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The incident unfolded in July when Jones began communicating on the Chatiw platform with someone claiming to be a young girl from the Gorseinon area, a suburb of Swansea.
Prosecutors revealed that Jones quickly shifted the tone of their conversation towards sexual topics.
He inquired about the girl’s previous sexual experiences with boyfriends, indicating a disturbing interest in her personal history.
Over the course of several days and weeks, Jones sent a series of graphic and explicit messages detailing the sexual acts he desired to perform and what he expected her to do in return.
During these exchanges, Jones made degrading remarks, including calling the girl his “dirty little sl*t” and suggesting he would “train” her if she was inexperienced.
One particularly alarming message saw him confess that he had always wanted sex with someone her age, and he added, “If you are ugly I’ll put a bag on your head LOL,” implying a willingness to engage in sexual activity regardless of her appearance.
Authorities acted swiftly after discovering the messages.
Jones was arrested on July 22, and his phone was confiscated.
However, during the search, officers found that he had deleted the messages from his device.
In police interviews, Jones initially claimed he believed he was communicating with a 28-year-old woman and denied any sexual interest in children.
Jones, who resides at Cantref Court, Ravenhill, Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child when he appeared before Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
The court heard that his online conduct was wholly unhealthy and inappropriate, revealing a clear sexual interest in minors.
Judge Huw Rees sentenced Jones to eight months in prison, giving him a one-third reduction for his guilty plea.
The judge also ordered that Jones serve up to half of his sentence in custody before being released on licence, with the remaining time to be served in the community.
Additionally, Jones was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his internet use, and he was registered as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
