MARC CAULTON SENTENCED IN STAPLEFORD FOR CHILD ABUSE HORROR
In September 2018, a man named Marc Caulton from Stapleford was handed a four-year prison sentence after admitting to causing severe injuries and suffering to a three-month-old infant. The incident that led to his arrest and subsequent conviction took place in October 2017, when the young child was urgently taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after being found with a limp arm. Medical examinations, including X-rays, confirmed that the baby’s arm was fractured in a manner consistent with significant trauma.Further diagnostic imaging revealed that the child had sustained a total of eight fractures—seven additional breaks across both arms and legs—indicating that these injuries had occurred on multiple occasions. The severity and pattern of the injuries led doctors to conclude that they were caused by blunt force trauma, a finding that directly implicated Caulton, who was then residing on Peatfield Road in Stapleford.
Following the medical findings, authorities detained Caulton and charged him with grievous bodily harm, child neglect, and causing serious injury to a minor. During the course of the investigation, Caulton attempted to justify the injuries with various excuses; however, these explanations were dismissed by paediatric experts, ultimately leading to his guilty plea in July 2018.
On the 14th of September, 2018, Caulton appeared before Nottingham Crown Court where he was sentenced to four years in prison. The court also imposed a lifetime restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim or his family, and ordered him to pay court costs. The case drew significant attention from law enforcement and child protection agencies, highlighting the brutal nature of the abuse.
Detective Constable Chris Taylor, a member of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, expressed his outrage and disappointment over the case. He stated, “There’s something to be said for a man who chooses to abuse a child so defenceless, a child so young they haven’t even developed the ability to ask for help. Caulton is manipulative and has caused a cascade of devastation and confusion for the child’s family. They now have to move on from this without any explanation as to why their son suffered such horrific injuries, but I hope knowing that he is behind bars will give them some closure.”
He further added, “Fortunately, the boy has a bright future ahead and is not expected to suffer long-term effects from his injuries, nor will he carry any memory of the abuse inflicted by Caulton. I hope he can now enjoy a safe and happy childhood with his loving family. This case has shocked our department, and we simply cannot understand how a human being could do this to a baby.”
