MANAF AL HUSSEIN FLEEING FROM STOCKTON SWIMMING POOL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT
In April 2017, a disturbing incident took place at the Splash swimming baths in Stockton involving a man named Manaf Al Hussein, aged 24, who is now believed to have fled the country to evade justice.The case centers around a serious sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl, which has shocked the local community and raised concerns about safety at public recreational facilities.
According to court proceedings, Al Hussein was observed at the Splash swimming pool alone on April 9 of the previous year.
Witnesses reported that he had been behaving in a manner that made the young girl and her friend feel uncomfortable, primarily through persistent staring and following their movements around the pool area.
The situation escalated when Al Hussein, after seemingly bumping into the girl’s friend, approached the young girl and engaged in inappropriate physical contact, specifically groping her.
Following the incident, he swam away from the scene, but the girls later identified him to staff members, describing his behavior and their discomfort.
Authorities detained Al Hussein shortly after the incident.
During police interviews, he initially denied any wrongdoing, choosing not to comment on the allegations.
However, he was later identified through a police lineup, confirming his involvement.
Despite his denial, Al Hussein eventually pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a child under 13 during his trial at Teesside Crown Court.
In his absence, Judge Tony Briggs sentenced him to six months in prison and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The prosecution expressed surprise at his failure to appear in court, noting that Al Hussein had deliberately made himself unavailable.
The judge also revealed that Al Hussein had indicated intentions to leave the country prior to sentencing, although it remains unconfirmed whether he has successfully fled the UK.
Judge Briggs emphasized the gravity of the incident, stating that Al Hussein’s presence at the pool, along with other young people and children, was a cause for concern.
He highlighted that the defendant’s actions caused significant distress and discomfort to the victim and her friend.
As part of the court’s ruling, Al Hussein was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from entering the Splash swimming baths or the surrounding area.
Overall, this case underscores the importance of vigilance and safety at public venues, especially those frequented by children.
