MALCOLM PLAISTED SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR RAPE IN OXFORD
A homeless man identified as Malcolm Plaisted has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of eleven years following a brutal sexual assault in Oxford.The court proceedings took place on March 30 at Oxford Crown Court, where Plaisted, aged 35 and without a fixed address, was convicted of the crime.
Upon his release from incarceration, Plaisted will be subject to a six-year licence period, during which he will be monitored under strict conditions.
Initially, he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and possession of a knife in a public place, but he later changed his plea to guilty on March 9, acknowledging his culpability in the assault.
The incident occurred on November 12 of the previous year, a day that would go on to profoundly affect the victim.
According to court reports, Plaisted approached the woman’s residence in Oxford, knocking on her door and requesting a cigarette and a coffee, claiming he had been out all night and was in need of some comfort.
The woman, moved by what appeared to be a request for help, invited him inside her home.
What followed was a horrifying sequence of events.
Despite her pleas and protests for him to stop, Plaisted dragged his victim onto her bed and subjected her to a violent rape.
The attack lasted against her wishes, causing significant emotional and physical trauma.
The victim’s bravery and resilience throughout the ordeal have been highly praised by investigators.
The day after the assault, on November 13, Plaisted was swiftly arrested and subsequently charged.
He was remanded into custody and faced the court to answer for his actions.
Detective Constable Ellie Middlemass of Oxford CID, who led the investigation, described the case as deeply distressing.
She remarked, “This was an incredibly harrowing case to investigate due to its violent nature and the fact that a vulnerable woman was harmed in her own home.” Officer Middlemass emphasized the importance of the victim’s cooperation: “Her home was a place that she had every reason to feel safe.
She let Plaisted in to her address to make him a cup of coffee, and Plaisted embarked on a horrific attack.” She further praised the victim’s courage, stating, “Despite suffering significantly as a result of this incident, she has supported the investigation throughout and she should be highly commended for the bravery and resilience she has shown.” The court’s sentencing reflects the serious nature of the offence.
Malcolm Plaisted has been designated as a dangerous offender, and in addition to his prison sentence, he will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, underlining the ongoing risk he poses to society.
Thames Valley Police reiterated their strong stance against violence inflicted upon women and girls.
Detective Middlemass expressed her hope that the conviction and custodial sentence would offer some measure of solace to the victim.
