Caernarfon Rapist
Malcolm Donaldson, a 74-year-old man from Caernarfon, has been convicted of multiple sexual offences. He previously received an 11-year prison sentence for rape in Prestatyn. More recently, he admitted to sexually assaulting a woman with learning disabilities whom he had befriended, leading to a new sentence of 18 months in prison. The court heard that his victim, a woman in her 50s with a learning disability, lived independently in the community. Judge Merfyn Hughes remarked, "You were aware of her vulnerability and you took advantage of her." Donaldson's recent conviction was for sexually assaulting this woman, and he pleaded guilty, which prevented her from having to give evidence. Despite the guilty plea, the judge ordered that this sentence run consecutively to his previous 11-year sentence for rape. The court also noted that Donaldson had been previously prosecuted for the rape of a 24-year-old woman, where DNA evidence linked him to the crime, despite his claims of being elsewhere. Additionally, four charges of sexually assaulting the woman with learning disabilities were ordered to lie on file, indicating ongoing concerns about his offending. His history of sexual offences highlights a pattern of predatory behavior against vulnerable women.
