MAHMOOD NAWAZ OF STOCKPORT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEEN IN MANCHESTER

In March 2009, Mahmood Nawaz, a 27-year-old from Heald Green, Stockport, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after a sexual assault on a teenage girl. Nawaz had exchanged contact details with the underage girl despite being aware of her age, and he invited her for a day out. She accepted the invitation and brought along friends.

Nawaz then took the group to a hotel, where he offered them alcohol. During this time, he attempted to have sexual contact with the girl. Fortunately, her friends recognized the inappropriate behavior and alerted hotel staff, leading Nawaz to leave the scene in his van.

Later, the children reported the incident to the police, prompting Nawaz's arrest. He admitted to one count of sexual assault and a child sex offence. As a result, he was sentenced to serve time in prison and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

Detective Constable April Hopwood, who led the investigation, commented, "Despite knowing how old his victim was he made arrangements to meet her, plying her and her friends with alcohol in an attempt to get what he really wanted. Luckily, the children realised what was happening was wrong and managed to put an end to the situation."
