In February 2009, a disturbing case unfolded involving Lynn Walls, a teacher from Penshaw, who was sentenced to 12 months in prison for engaging in inappropriate and sexual communication with a young boy. The incident came to light after Walls, who had been employed as a primary school teacher for 15 years, initiated contact with a 14-year-old boy she met through the popular online game Warcraft.
