Sept 2006 Man took pictures of sex attacks A GWENT man who groomed two girls and sexually abused them after making them pose for “humiliating” indecent pictures has been jailed. Cardiff crown court heard how 58-year-old Lyndon Bainton, of Tan-y-Bryn, Risca, took one picture of him carrying out a sex attack on one of the teenage girls. He was given an indeterminate sentence for the public protection by Judge Philip Richards and will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least three years in prison. Judge Richards told him: “These offences involved grave humiliation of these two victims. They were subjected to experiences to which no young girl should be subjected. I am satisfied that you groomed them.” The judge said “It is quite impossible to calculate what will be the long-term consequences of your behaviour. “You took advantage of their youth and vulnerability.” Lucy Crowther, prosecuting, said Bainton told the police it was his suggestion that the girls should strip for him. He denied there had been any sexual gratification. She said he told them he had done it because of the “power” he could wield over the girls. The defendant pleaded guilty yesterday to four counts of sexual activity with a child and four counts of making an indecent photograph of a child committed this year. He also asked for 45 other offences of making an indecent image of a child to be taken into consideration. He admitted having 61 indecent images in total with one act of level four category depicting a serious sex act between an adult and a child. The court heard the defendant had no previous convictions for any sexual offences. He does have previous convictions for dishonesty. Eugene Egan, mitigating, said his “most powerful mitigation” was that his client’s guilty pleas had spared the girls the ordeal of a trial. He said “This is a man whose fall from grace is spectacular. The stigma will stay with him for the rest of his days.” Speaking outside the court, DS Gwyn Pigeon, from Gwent Police child protection unit, said the offences against the victims were “disturbing”. He added “It will be very difficult for them to recover from their ordeal.”
