LUKE SIMPSON AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN WILTSHIRE
A man named Luke Simpson from Wiltshire was responsible for a shocking and disturbing series of crimes involving a young girl.Simpson, aged 33, was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison at Swindon Crown Court, with an additional five years on license, after being found guilty of carrying out a horrific campaign of sexual abuse against an 11-year-old girl.
During the court proceedings, Judge Jason Taylor QC described Simpson’s actions as cunning, predatory, determined, and manipulative.
Throughout the lengthy hearing, Simpson remained largely unemotional, only showing fleeting gestures such as covering his ears briefly and staring at the ceiling.
He listened silently as the court heard a powerful impact statement from the victim’s mother, detailing the profound emotional and psychological damage inflicted upon her family by Simpson’s actions.
The abuse took place over a period extending from January 2019 to October of the previous year.
During this time, Simpson subjected his young victim, who was 11 and then 12 years old, to an ongoing series of assaults that included rape and multiple other forms of sexual abuse.
The girl confided in police that there had been so many incidents that she could no longer count them all.
Simpson’s grooming tactics included sending coded messages via WhatsApp, asking questions such as "cuddles tonight?" to hide the true nature of his manipulative conduct, especially considering that the girl’s mother regularly checked her phone.
The victim recounted that Simpson would often ask her whether she wanted what he was doing, and if she refused, he would become hostile or sulk for days.
Her disclosures led her to confide first in a younger sister and later, in October, directly to her mother.
Upon arrest, Simpson initially denied any wrongdoing but later admitted to a sexual history with the girl, claiming to his mother that their encounters had been consensual.
His mother, horrified by his lack of remorse, provided a statement to the police, stating her frustration at his denial.
Simpson's father also gave a police statement, explaining that the account he had heard was one of the most terrible things he had ever encountered, but he felt compelled to report it.
During subsequent interviews, Simpson tried to shift the blame onto the victim, claiming her initiation of sexual activity.
He admitted to being under the influence of drugs and alcohol, claiming he was not fully aware of his actions at the time.
However, the prosecution dismissed these claims, noting that Simpson had not entered a plea and that his explanations were unconvincing.
Girls and their families were particularly affected, with the victim describing her feelings of shame and fear, saying, "I struggle to trust men and feel like I’m not normal.
As a 12-year-old girl, I feel ashamed to have been treated like that." She also expressed fears that Simpson might harm her, stating that knowing he was in prison made her feel safer.
Her mother praised her resilience, calling Simpson "sick and demonic." In court, Simpson, who was previously living in Atworth near Melksham, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape of a child, sexual assault, and assault by penetration.
Judge Taylor articulated the severity of Simpson’s offending, calling it a campaign of rape.
The judge highlighted Simpson’s calculated and planned misconduct, emphasizing his manipulative and predatory behavior, which demonstrated a disturbing lack of empathy and understanding of his actions.
Judge Taylor imposed what he called an extended sentence — 18 years imprisonment with a further five years on licence.
He expressed concern over Simpson’s risky and brazen behavior, noting that Simpson’s distorted view of the victim’s willingness to participate or initiate meant that he posed a significant ongoing threat to other young girls.
The sentence aims to facilitate strict management, monitoring, and in-depth psychological work to address and challenge Simpson’s attitudes.
In mitigation, the court learned that Simpson had himself suffered traumatic abuse during his childhood.
Defense lawyer Tabitha Macfarlane acknowledged his full responsibility and stated that Simpson had taken early guilty pleas.
She also noted that Simpson expressed remorse for his actions during proceedings.
As part of his sentence, Simpson will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely and will remain on the sex offender registry for life.
Upon leaving the courtroom, Simpson was met with taunts from members of the public.
His future as a registered sex offender is confirmed, and he is legally required to comply with ongoing restrictions and monitoring to safeguard others from potential harm.
