MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND STRANGULATION IN GWYNEDD
Luke Roberts, aged 32, was involved in a serious assault against his partner in Deiniolen, Gwynedd.During the court hearing, it was revealed that Roberts lost his temper after accusing his partner of being unfaithful, a claim she denied.
He hit her on the head with an unopened wine bottle she had bought earlier that day, and then he squeezed her neck until she nearly lost consciousness for several minutes.
The victim, who suffers from epilepsy and was vulnerable at the time, later disclosed to officers that she had a seizure during the attack and injured herself.
Roberts pushed her against a wall and exerted pressure on her throat until she became unconscious, fearing he might have caused her death.
Emergency services arrived after a neighbor alerted them, finding Roberts at the scene.
He was at the address despite a previous court order prohibiting contact, leading to his detention.
Although he initially denied deliberate strangulation, Roberts later entered a guilty plea before the trial proceedings.
The victim expressed concern over Roberts’s possible release, fearing he could cause her more harm.
Roberts received a sentence of 21 months in prison, along with an extra nine months for violating a suspended sentence from earlier.
An indefinite restraining order was also issued to restrict his contact with the victim.
It was mentioned in court that Roberts is participating in a drug rehabilitation program, and Roberts himself stated he wished to have no further contact with the victim.
Authorities commended the bravery of the victim and emphasized their ongoing effort to combat domestic violence.
