Northallerton Rapist
A man from Northallerton has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of raping a teenage girl over a decade ago.

Luke Jack Ridley, aged 29 and currently held at HMP Holme House in Stockton-on-Tees, appeared before Teesside Crown Court on 4 February 2025, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape.

The crimes took place when Ridley was a teenager, and the victim was significantly younger than him at the time. The details of the incidents reveal a disturbing pattern of assault that occurred many years ago, which only came to light recently.

The victim reported the assaults to North Yorkshire Police in September 2022, prompting a thorough investigation. The inquiry was led by Detective Constable Quita Readman, who is part of the Hambleton and Richmondshire CID.

Throughout the investigation, Detective Readman provided ongoing support to the victim, ensuring she received appropriate professional care and assistance. This included support from the Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS), which offers specialized help for victims of sexual violence and abuse.

Ridley's conviction and subsequent sentencing reflect the seriousness of his actions and the importance of justice for victims of sexual assault, regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes occurred.

His imprisonment underscores the commitment of law enforcement to pursue justice and protect vulnerable individuals from harm, even many years after the offenses took place.
