LUIS PALMA SENTENCED IN HARLOW FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS
A man identified as Luis Palma has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison after CAIT detectives established a link to a sexual assault incident involving a young girl in Harlow.The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Oakwood Pond, where a teenage girl was approached by a man shortly before 4:20 pm and was sexually assaulted.
Fortunately, she managed to escape and seek help.
Following this, an investigation was launched, during which police used the victim’s description to track down Luis Palma.
His distinctive attire—comprising a blue t-shirt, blue denim shorts, and Vans-style trainers—helped officers identify him via CCTV footage.
His description and images were circulated among patrol officers in Harlow.
On June 17, officers spotted a man carrying a Nike bag similar to the one in the CCTV images.
The individual was followed, and after he appeared to notice the officers, he paused to look back at them before walking into a group of officers ahead of him.
He was detained and subsequently arrested.
A search of his home revealed and recovered all the distinctive clothing items he had been wearing.
Further investigation uncovered sexually explicit messages exchanged between Palma and a 14-year-old girl on Instagram.
The victim made it clear she was only 14, yet Palma continued to pursue the conversation.
Luis Palma, 31, of Fold Croft, Harlow, was charged with sexual assault and communicating sexually with a minor between April and June 2022.
He appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court in February, where he admitted both charges.
On Wednesday, April 10, he was sentenced to 44 months in jail.
He will remain on the sex offender register for life and will be deported after serving his sentence.
Authorities also successfully applied for a sexual harm prevention order, which bans Palma from entering Harlow indefinitely.
