LOUIS COLLINS SHOCKS LONDON WITH BRUTAL ATTACKS AND RAPE SPREE IN TWICKENHAM AND CLAPHAM

Louis Collins, a 29-year-old sex offender from Croydon, London, has been convicted of a series of violent and sexual crimes committed over a span of just a few days in August last year.

His actions, which included multiple assaults and rapes, have left a profound impact on the victims and have raised serious concerns about the oversight of individuals released from secure psychiatric facilities.

On August 21, 2022, during an hour-long assault in Marble Hill Park, located in Twickenham, southwest London, Collins targeted a woman who was out for a jog.

According to court reports, he approached her wielding a knife and a broken bottle, brandishing the weapons while threatening her with words like, "Don’t scream, nobody’s going to help you." He then struck her over the head, forcing her to the ground.

The attacker proceeded to tear off her clothes and sexually assault her in a brutal and terrifying ordeal.

During the attack, two women nearby heard the victim’s screams for help.

As they moved closer to intervene, Collins shouted at them, using profanity and threatening to kill them if they came any closer.

Frightened, the women retreated from the scene, unable to assist the victim further.

The court heard that Collins’s actions were part of a disturbing four-day spree of violence and sexual assault against eight women, which included multiple other attacks and threats.

Patricia May, the prosecutor, revealed that Collins had been released from Lambeth Hospital without supervision on August 18, 2022.

The medical team had approved his unescorted absence, despite concerns about his mental health.

Just days after his release, Collins’s violent behavior continued.

He was caught groping a woman at Clapham Common station while she was on the escalator.

Despite returning to the hospital past his curfew, he was permitted to leave again on August 20.

On that day, Collins’s violent streak escalated further.

He attacked and attempted to rape two women, sexually assaulted four more, and threatened to kill another individual.

The culmination of his violent rampage was the assault on the jogger in Marble Hill Park early on August 21, around 8 a.m., which marked the most severe incident of his spree.

At Kingston Crown Court, Collins pleaded guilty to a total of 27 charges, including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and threats, all committed between August 18 and 21, 2022.

The court heard that Collins claimed voices in his head had compelled him to carry out these attacks.

However, a medical evaluation indicated that he did not exhibit signs of a psychotic illness, casting doubt on his claims.

The victim of the park assault delivered a heartfelt statement, describing how her world was turned upside down by the attack.

She expressed that the incident shattered her sense of security, trust in others, and her faith in justice.

She revealed that she had waited 18 months to receive professional counseling to help her cope with the trauma inflicted by Collins’s violence.

In response to the case, a spokesperson for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees Lambeth Hospital, stated their support for the court’s decision.

They emphasized that Collins’s crimes were appalling and extended their sympathies to the victims and their families.

The trust also confirmed that they had conducted a thorough internal investigation and are committed to improving their services to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Louis Collins is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, and the case continues to draw attention to the risks posed by individuals released from psychiatric care without adequate supervision or support.
