MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ATTEMPTED RAPE
In May 2023, Manchester Crown Court found Logan Galbraith guilty of charges including assault by penetration, sexual assault, and attempted rape. The 52-year-old was sentenced to a prison term of seven years and five months.
The incident involved a young woman in her twenties who was attacked after an evening out in July 2019.
Galbraith picked her up in a taxi from a train station and brought her to his hotel room in Manchester.
Inside, he undressed her and, despite her resistance and attempts to repel him, subjected her to sexual assault and tried to rape her.
The woman managed to get dressed and leave the scene.
During the encounter, Galbraith also asked if she wanted to make their visit a regular occurrence and offered her £250 to have sex every Monday.
During the trial, the defense sought to present evidence concerning a previous consensual sexual act with another partner, but the judge did not allow it, citing irrelevance.
Galbraith later appealed his conviction, claiming that the judge’s ruling restricted his defense.
The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal, with judges emphasizing that the decision to exclude evidence about the victim's sexual history was appropriate to safeguard her privacy and dignity.
They clarified that the focus of the trial was on the consent regarding the specific incident, not her past sexual activities.
Galbraith’s conviction stands as upheld.
